Grupo Planeta will open a new online training centre in Andorra; Carlemany University

The Education and Higher Education Minister, Ester Vilarrubla, presented on Thursday, March 5th, the opening of a new centre of higher education in Andorra: Universitat Carlemany. This centre will be part of Planeta Formación y Universidades, the Grupo Planeta's training division. Vilarrubla was accompanied by the University's CEO, Carlos Giménez, at a press conference.

The Minister recalled how contacts for the establishment of this university began at the end of 2015, when Planeta Formación y Universidades met with the Government of Andorra. Universitat Carlemany wants to offer official training (bachelor's degree, specialization bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctorate) and other courses of its own, all of which are non-attendance courses.

Vilarrubla stated, "the emergence of new educational options is always positive because it gives citizens more opportunities for training and, means a greater presence of Andorran higher education internationally". Carlos Giménez pointed out that "Universitat Carlemany brings us closer to our goal which is to offering a high-level education, without geographical location being an obstacle to achieving that".

Once the opening of the centre is authorised, the university must present to the Ministry and to the Andorran Agency for Higher Education Quality (AQUA), the different study plans and eventually newly created qualifications. The intention of representatives is to offer qualifications mainly in the field of social sciences, education science and technology.

Universitat Carlemany will be located in Andorra la Vella and its academic activity is expected to start during the first semester of the 2020-2021 academic year.
